IPI Director calls for effective electoral alliances

The Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Interaction Associate Professor Nandini Patel has called for the need for African nations to have in place policies that will ensure there are electoral alliances that are beneficial to democracy.

She made the call during a recent webinar.

Patel who was the main discussant in which she took participants on the history that Malawi has had on electoral alliances.

Among other things, she expressed concern over lack of alliances that are issues based.

She also took questions from participants most of whom asked for how Malawi can or may now have functional alliances.

Again, Patel⁩ lobbied for sound policies towards the same and better legal frameworks to avoid inconvenient electoral alliances.

She also urged stakeholders to prepare for the possibility of events that may arise should there be a run off.
